Healthy Snacks to Serve at Your Superbowl Party

By Victoria Robertson on February 2, 2018

The Superbowl is already just around the corner (can you believe it?!), and that means so is your Superbowl party. And, if you’re anything like me, you’ve procrastinated the planning portion up until this point. Luckily for you, you still have a little time left, and I have your all your party planning needs.

And don’t think that just because you’re a last-minute party planner you’ll be stuck with unhealthy snacks like chips and dip! There are plenty of healthy options that don’t take nearly as long as you would think to put together. With that in mind, here are six healthy snacks to serve at your Superbowl party.

1. Veggie Pizza

While it’s certainly no substitute for that cheesy goodness that is regular pizza, veggie pizza is a great snack for your guests and is relatively good for you.

You can use whatever type of dough you want (whole wheat for the best results) and use a low-fat cream cheese as the base. From here, add your favorite veggies and then top with some low-fat cheese to complete.

This is a quick, simple and healthy alternative pizza for your Superbowl party.

2. Hummus/Guacamole

Normally, this is the time to break out this chips and dip, but when you’re considering healthier options, it’s probably best to put away that French onion nonsense.

Instead, make a homemade dip, such as hummus or guacamole, and pick the ingredients you’re putting in so that you can make it healthily. This is also a good time to put together some salsa and other healthier versions of dips and you can substitute the normal chips with veggies as well for the added health bonus.

No matter what, your dips will be a hit and a great draw to your snack table throughout the game.

3. Veggie Buffalo Meatballs

Some of us really live for the spice, and when you’re eating healthy, it’s difficult to insert that into your snacking. However, with this healthy alternative to wings, you can have the heat and enjoy it, too!

You would make these like any other veggie meatballs, simply adding the buffalo sauce you like to use when it comes to your wings. Again, you can choose exactly how healthy you want to go here, but you have a lot of room for experimenting.

Additionally, there are people that use cauliflower in place of veggie burgers for that extra ounce of healthiness, but it’s completely up to you.

4. Chicken Chili

With my family, chili has always been a Superbowl staple. So when you’re looking at healthy Superbowl snacks, this gets thrown out rather quickly.

However, there are healthier versions of chili that you can use and, in this case, that simply means substituting that fatty, ground beef with a leaner meat such as chicken. Of course, you can play with this recipe however you want, but the best way to keep that flavor is to use more kidney beans and additional veggies and simply replace the fattier meats.

You can also skip the sour cream and cheese as toppings for additional health benefits.

5. Sweet Potato Chips/Fries

Sure, regular fries aren’t exactly “healthy.” But removing them from a Superbowl party altogether? Unheard of.

Instead, replace your normal fries with a healthier alternative: sweet potatoes. They’re just as good and add that little bit of sweetness your appetizers may be missing.

You can make wedges, regular fries or chips, depending on what your snack table needs. The best part about these is that they are quick and easy and don’t require too much of your time, so you can spend your Sunday watching the game rather than stressing out in the kitchen.

6. Fruit/Veggie Platter

Last, but definitely not least, your healthy, Superbowl snack table needs a veggie tray. This is easily the healthiest option you’re going to have for your guests, and it takes you almost no time to put together. You can always pick up a tray from the store, or create your own with vegetables that you and your friends like.

For added snacks, put together a fruit salad for your guests (again, store bought or put together on your own) and this will satisfy the sweet tooth without breaking anyone’s diets or New Year’s resolutions (if they were able to maintain them this long).

With these six healthy snacks, your Superbowl party is going to be an absolute hit with all in attendance, and for all the right reasons!

So don’t stress out about your planning, simply gather the ingredients, throw together these healthy snacks and sit back and relax, because you have plenty of commercials and football to watch, and especially that Superbowl halftime show! This year, the football champions aren’t going to be the only winners.

Have a great time!
